7 YRS PROCESS - DAY 506 - DIRTY TRICKS OF THE BIG CORPORATIONS - PART 1

GO BACK

Dirty tricks of the big corporations

I am catching up with posting online my articles.

Some couple of weeks ago I met on the street a sales representative from a company ( JAZZTEL ) providing telephone and internet services. I was very happy to meet him because I have just moved into new house and I needed an internet service. I was even happier when he told me that they are offering internet speed of up to 30 Mbps which is about 6 times faster than the usual speed offered by the competitors. I live on a relatively small island and thus the quality of the internet service is not as reliable as on the mainland of Spain and thus for me it was very interesting.

Thus we have started to sign the contract. But because I've had already some bad experience with companies operating in Spain and offering internet ( Movistar, Vodafone ) thus I have asked the sales representative to call their technicians and confirm the speed of the internet in my house. And I was told that in the place where I live the maximum download speed is of 6 Mbps. Thus I have realised that the 30 Mbps is just a marketing trick to get the customers.

Anyway because JAZZTEL has collected my telephone number at the moment of signing the contract thus they have called me again few weeks later to try to get me to sing contract with them. I was not interested because the 6 Mbps was not enough for me. But they have insisted that they have upgraded their technology and they can guarantee the internet speed between 11 and 15 Mbps. And thus I have decided that I will try their service especially because they have secured me that I have 75 day trial period during which I can cancel the contract and on top of it they will give me back all the money. All this has sounded very interesting and convincing. I thought: "Which company would offer me the 75 day money back guarantee if they were not certain that they can provide this service which they promise ?".

The common way of signing the contract in Spain in regards to internet service provided by the companies is done over the phone. They simply read to me all the conditions, I confirm all the details and it all is being recorded. Thus it is an oral contract but still it is legally valid. During the process of doing this contract the operator has told me that I will be provided with the internet speed of up to 10 Mbps. Well... this was not what was promised to me by the sales representative and thus I have cancelled the deal. Then I have received a phone call from the sales rep, she checked again if I can really get the speed of 11-15 Mbps and then I have been redirected to record the contract again. The story has repeated itself 2 or 3 times more. But in the end I have not signed the contract because the sales rep was telling me one thing and the person from the contract department was reading me different story.

To be continued...
